Peterrific

Pinkalicious, Purplicious, Goldilicious, Silverlicious, Emeraldalicious, and Aqualicious are books by Victoria Kann that have been exciting young girls for several years now.   BUT now is the time for all good men~ to have just as much excitement... author Kann has delivered.
Her newest book Peterrific  is sure to please young boys.  Peter is a young boy full of imagination and creative dreams. Peter loves to build with blocks. One day he decides he wants to build a tower to the moon.  With the help of Pinkalicious and her going throughout the neighborhood borrowing blocks, Peter achieves his goal.  However, after this great accomplishment, he is met with a new challenge~  HOW TO GET DOWN!  School curriculums today are embracing new approaches to inspire students.  Stephenville I.S.D. is promoting iChampion: a movement to redefine  the educational environment, outcomes, and expectations for children in Earth County.  Peterrific is a young man with this type of creativity for learning through problem-solving.  I hope young readers will be inspired by his imagination.

The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors by Drew Daywalt

Bashful Book Bee's book of the week is The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors by Drew Daywalt.  That author name should sound familiar to you because he is the author of The Day the Crayons Quit.  This new Daywalt book is just as clever as his Crayon stories.  The book presents the history of Rock Paper Scissors and how they all came together to be the lead game for problem-solving on the playground.  Each heroic character had a driving desire to be the strongest and the best, only to discover their true joy is when they finally find someone that could beat them!  The drawings are as strong and bold as the characters.  Children, especially young boys are going to love it.  I think teachers will find this a fun way of introducing several essential knowledge and skills into the curriculum. Research, problem-solving, opinion, are just the first three skills I can envision using this book as the introduction.

WONDER by P.J. Palacio

Wonder by P.J. Palacio
Why blend in when you were born to stand out?

Bashfulbookbee's book of the week this week is
Wonder by P.J. Palacio.

THIS BOOK is going to get a lot of attention this year because a movie from this book will be released in November.  For several years the Librarian/Media Specialists of the school district I work in have had one book we shared throughout the district as an effort to provide collaboration throughout our curriculum.  "WONDER" is going to be one of the greatest initiatives we have shared. Wonder is a book about a young boy who has a rare medical deformity, mandibulofacial dysostosis. This book shares the challenges, fears, anxieties that the young character face, but also the wins.  He has a spirit of strength that brings out good in some hard to love personalities.  I hope this book will inspire all students with challenges, whether it is physical challenges, emotional challenges or life challenges... to keep on looking for the strength to be the best they can be.
I do not have a doubt in the world that the movie is going to be  GREAT...with the great line of actors it can't be anything but WONDERFUL.... but as any Librarian would tell you...IF you liked the movie... You will LOVE the Book~

Spaghetti In A Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy

This week Bashful Book Bee is recommending the book Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy.  This book gives young readers a clear picture of the feelings associated with harsh judgment.  Thanks to a caring and nurturing Grandfather, our young character Lucy, has the support to face challenges many young children deal with in today's society.  Lucy's many challenges stem from her appearance (I can so relate...CURLY HAIR), her unique appetite and to cultural diversity.  The art work by Kim Shaw gives added visuality to the emotions in the story.  This books will provide a great tool for teachers and parents to show children scenarios of how other children may fill in these type of situations.

  • A new segment in Bashful's Weekly Post will be Top 3 book recommendations from New York Times for Children, Publisher's Weekly, and Children's Book Review.  I have not read but two of the nine books....Some I have no interest in...BUT I'm really going to do more research on "What Do You Do With A Problem"~

  • The third segment Bashful wants to share with you is an app or technology product.  This week our recommendation is for readers to check out GOOGLE DRIVE.  I love Google drive... from any device I'm on, if I have a note or a picture I want to MAKE SURE AND NOT LOOSE, I just immediately upload to my Drive.
Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service developed by Google. Launched on April 24, 2012, Google Drive allows users to store files in the cloud, synchronize files across devices, and share files.

New Birthday Year New Blog!
This is my blog birthday, so I thought it time to get busy again
I will be posting my blog every Sunday evening...
This year I plan to post 3 things...
  • A great picture book
  • Top 5 popular books this week
  • And one app to consider
As a Librarian/Media Specialist my number one goal is to give kids what they need...maybe to be loved, a hug, a smile, and of course great book suggestions.
My Second goal is to help teachers, staff and parents with their needs...which often are the same as kids.

Right now I want to post a disclaimer....In the past I got so worried about grammar, "intentionally educated sounding" content, and perfect sentence structure that I let that fear get in the way. A friend told me YOUR BLOG IS YOUR WORDS, so with that said....if you see errors I'M Sorry! In my crazy life, I may grab a random device to create my post, which may present challenges. We will say that's the reason for my errors!😉😉😉                                   And yes I love dot dot dot!
Happy Reading
