Lily the Unicorn by Dallas Clayton

Bashful Book Bee LOVES the new book I found,
thanks to "The Peppermint Pig Books.

Lily the Unicorn by Dallas Clayton is a GREAT book!
Lilly is a fun loving unicorn who, as most unicorns do, LOVES being different.
Here is where the great storyline provides education opportunities...
Lilly likes making things,
but she likes making friends MOST of all. This loving to make friends is when she meets a new friend Roger.  Roger Is a little penguin who as Lily says doesn't get out much~ and because of that
Roger is afraid to take on any challenge due to fear.
Lily to the rescue... Lily teaches Roger to enjoy life by taking risks...
In finding this book I did a little research on Dallas Clayton. He is a creative encouraging father who discovered his joy is writing and drawing children's books that encourage.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves

It's Fall Ya'll we can feel it in the air.... don't you just love it~

There's an old lady who swallowed some leaves is a great book to start your Fall adventures.  Lucille  Colandro has taken that old story "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly" and turned it into a great series of books.  Her books teach sequencing in a cumulative story filled with nonsense rhyme.  Readers will feel autumn in the air as Colandro shares the many
fall aspects the old lady swallows.
The creative story gives students a fun way of thinking about fall and
our symbols to identify with the season.

Wonder and We're All Wonders

Wonder and We're All Wonders by R.J. Palacio

I have Wonder on the brain... I can't get enough of these two books... with that said I'm re-posting a previous blog.  The district I'm in is having a district wide initiative to promote these books~
In hoping to help educators find resources to use with this book, I created a "Symbaloo" FULL of great teaching resource sites for both books...
Have a great WONDER-FUL WEEK~

Wonder by P.J. Palacio
Why blend in when you were born to stand out?

Bashfulbookbee's book of the week this week is
Wonder by P.J. Palacio.

THIS BOOK is going to get a lot of attention this year because a movie from this book will be released in November.  For several years the Librarian/Media Specialists of the school district I work in have had one book we shared throughout the district as an effort to provide collaboration throughout our curriculum.  "WONDER" is going to be one of the greatest initiatives we have shared. Wonder is a book about a young boy who has a rare medical deformity, mandibulofacial dysostosis. This book shares the challenges, fears, anxieties that the young character face, but also the wins.  He has a spirit of strength that brings out good in some hard to love personalities.  I hope this book will inspire all students with challenges, whether it is physical challenges, emotional challenges or life challenges... to keep on looking for the strength to be the best they can be.
I do not have a doubt in the world that the movie is going to be  GREAT...with the great line of actors it can't be anything but WONDERFUL.... but as any Librarian would tell you...IF you liked the movie... You will LOVE the Book~

Palacio has written another book that is a great companion for younger grades...
