Bashful Book Bee hopes you find this blog beneficial in introducing you to some  great new children's book titles.  Several of our book recommendations this week are great spin off’s of old classics, which make for great compare and contrast lessons for students. I hope you will agree~

This week’s Bashful Book Bee's “BEELOVED" FEATURE…

Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty? By David Levinthal and John Nickle

Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty is a fun book with a twist to several nursery tales.  The author inspires readers to imagine  if what we thought to be true of nursery rhymes, really had other extenuating circumstances which gives our tales a different ending.  Educators will find this a great follow book for nursery rhyme lessons.  The tale uses a funny frog named Binky as the chief investigating officer to solve the crimes involved in the nursery rhymes.  Educators will need to read this book several times before using in a lesson, otherwise the teacher may be laughing so much they won't be able to complete the lesson .
Bashful Book Bee’s other weekly recommendations

1.The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf by Mark Teague

…Another creative twist to the classic story, only in this story everyone lives happily ever after;)

2.Chamelia by Ethan Long

…Great for lessons to help students who want attention, but how to gain that attention in positive and creative ways.

3.  Zoe’s Room (No Sisters Allowed) by Bethanie Deeney Murguia

…A creative tale about a young insomniac child who plays most of the night, until

she has to start sharing a room with a little sister.

4. The Children Who Loved Books by Peter Carnavas

…A MUST read for all librarians, but also a PLUS for showing families who read together stay together

I hope you will find some of these books as much fun as this Queen Bee. Teachers who wish to buy these titles at 15% off cover price, please email us at bashfulbookbee@gmail.com

This week Bashful Book Bee has the beginning of school on her mind. A new school year is so exciting with new teachers to meet, new class mates to meet, and new lessons to learn.

Bashful’s book of the week  is….

This Moose Belongs to Me by Oliver Jeffers…. This is the perfect book to show some humor in rules.  The beginning of a school year always introduces rules, rules, rules to students.  However, while the story points out details to following rules, it also presents another twist….  Sometimes for small children when they make a mistake they are hardest on themselves…. This story shows the value of rules, but being controlling isn’t always the best solution

My other recommendations for the week are...

1. Charlie Goes to School by Ree Drummond… is another great book of Charlie, a funny little basset hound on the ranch. This new story explores the lives of children going to home school.  Charlie finds the events in the children’s home school life inspiring; so he decides to be the teacher of the farm animal school.  Children will love Charlie’s story.

2.Dig, Dogs, Dig A Construction Tail by James Horvath… This is a great rhyming story all children will love.  The crew of dogs are building a major project that is not revealed until the end of the story.  The rhyming words, large equipment involved in the project, and the just fun dogs create a great tale.  Teachers will love using this book because the children will be so involved, and will provide a great opportunity of prediction.

3.Amelia Bedelia’s First Library Card by Herman Parish….in the tradition of Peggy Parish, Herman is developing a fun story about Amelia getting her first library card.  Librarians will love the book because it shares so much knowledge of libraries.  However, readers need to know Mr. Parish doesn’t use the play on words that Peggy Parish did.

4.The Boy Who Loved Math …. The Improbable Life of Paul Erdos by Deborah Heiligman

Is a story of the Mathematician Paul Erdos….The story shows the fascination Mr. Erdos had with Math.  What may prove to be beneficial to some children, is the characteristics of Mr. Erdos that made him unable to learn many normal behaviors for everyday life… but yet he was a genius at Math. This book would be an awesome book for educators who want to show children that being different isn’t bad, because you can use your strengths for greatness.  This book would also be great for Math teachers of older grades.  Older students will appreciate Mr. Erdos genius traits.

Here's to hoping all educators and students have a great school year

Greetings Bashful Book Bee BuddiesJ

I hope your introduction to last week’s blog is giving some of you parents and teachers new book ideas to share with your children.

I’m still eager for YOU to give me feedback on the best media source to send you this information…

I had 74 “like’s” but I think we reached over 300 …. WHEN you like and share, if you will tell others to like and share… the word will spread…

If you are reading this YOU found the blog… I’m wondering if Blogs are as likely to reach a lot of people or if Facebook is the best way….

You can always email me at bashfulbookbee@gmail.com with your comments….

I am working on a form to enable you to order books at a 15% discount…. But until that form is in place… please email me your questions and ordersJ

This week’s “BEELOVED” book is… “If I built a house” by Chris Van Dusen. This is an awesome rhyming story… full of creativity and great imagination.  The story is “built” around a young boy’s imagination of the characteristics a house would have should HE get to build it… The story goes from rooms in the sky with a view, to rooms that defy gravity, to rooms filled with water and ocean creatures. Teachers will love using this book not only for the rhyming and creative thinking…. But also for the analogies of what places in our city use some of the characteristics described in some of his rooms.  5 BEES

HOWEVER this week we also have a “BEEST BET honor book”… “Oscar P’s Alphabet Adventure” by Kathleen Davis… I had to give this book a special place of honor not only because of my “loyalty to Tarleton, Stephenville, and Erath County”, but also because as alphabet books go, it rates at the top… The author also uses some vocabulary not usually found in alphabet books that will prove great introduction to many social studies lessons.  For you Tarleton Grads, it’s a great book for children in your families to learn the history of Tarleton and Erath County.

I have three other books to mention to you this week… my little committee of bumble bees love them all…. For me they don’t rate as high as my Beeloved book of the week, but they would all be good additions for your librariesJ

1.       “Pirates Guide to Recess” by James Preller….The story is about children using their imagination while playing….but for me I wasn’t sure the story would keep the attention as a read aloud... 2 Bees

2.       “Monsters love colors” by Mike Austin….This book lacks imagination, but uses some inventive vocabulary and introduction to colors that kindergarten and preschool students will enjoy. The colorful drawings and colorful words describing colors will make children smileJ 2 Bees

3.       “The Three Triceratops Tuff” by Stephen Shaskan….Is a story that most little boys will love since it is about dinosaurs.  It is a “take off” from the Three Billy Goats Gruff… Therefore using it as a compare and contrast story would work for a great lesson for teachers.                   2 Bees….
