Socks for Christmas

Socks For Christmas  by Andy Andrews

Is Bashfullbookbee's book of the week.

A few years back, I was a young mother of two.  I was just like all parents I wanted to give my children everything possible.  I wonder where that desire comes from.  As I've seen posted several times on Facebook, the older we get the shorter our Christmas wish lists get.  I wish now I had not been the kind of person who, sometimes at the serious mismanagement of our household finances, had not strived for so many material things.  I hope parents who see this blog will check out this book.  I even found one young man reading it on YouTube.  I wish young parents didn't feel that had to shower their children with Christmas gifts, as I often did.   This story is about a young man who was disgruntled and unappreciative of the Christmas gifts he got.  Like so many of us, he wished for "something" he didn't get.  However, the story goes on...the young boy realizes his Christmas was much better than another child's just down the street.  The story is full of heart, appreciation, and giving.  The young boy learns true joy comes from giving.  I hope Bashfullbookbee readers will read this sweet book this Christmas~

Twas the Night Before Christmas

This week’s blog is about “The Night Before Christmas”
and the rest of the story…
My favorite is the recent publishing of Mary Engelbreit's...

But this is no new story.....The story was believed to be written by Clement Clarke Moore for his children titled
“A Visit from St. Nicholas” in 1822. As a scholar, he is said to have been embarrassed by the light-hearted holiday poem. Historians also believe a family friend, Miss Harriet Butler, learned of the poem sometime later from Moore's children. She submitted this iconic children’s poet anonymously and it was then published in the Troy Sentinel in 1823.  Moore did not publish the poem under his name until 1844.
My research couldn't come up with a count of publishings of this classic poem…. But one thing I do know is it has been around nearly 200 years. Many authors have also taken his creative poem and created their own parody following the classic form of “Night Before Christmas”. What a great way to do comparison and contrast with students... I think we have some holiday books to read

Christmas Time for Love

Christmas Time is in the air.  If you are around children, their excitement is contagious.  God surely knew when he gave us the Christ child, that CHILDREN would love the holiday.  I am excited to see more children knowing the True meaning of Christmas.  The birth of our savior is exciting.  And while the gift giving sometimes gets out of hand, I think the Wisemen gave us a great example to give Him gifts.  I believe it is because of love within us, that gift giving then must extend to our giving gifts to others we love as well…of course~  This Bashful Book Bee, loves giving gifts.... and most of the time they are books, of course, ~
My number one gift book for children is one of my all-time favorite books.

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams was written in 1922.

However, this classic tale still will be loved by all…from young children to adults.  The sweet little story is a young stuffed rabbit given to a young boy at Christmas. While the story is primarily about the loving relationship the boy develops with his toy, the toy also meets many new animals in the nursery.  These new acquaintances give the young rabbit the brutal truth that "he" is not "real".  The toy rabbit's greatest desire is to become real. However, through the sincere love the rabbit has for the boy, he learns the awesome lesson of selfless love, which proves to be the magic of being truly REAL.

Bashful book bee give this classic~

Bashful Book Bee’s other great Christmas book recommendations:
  • ·         The Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood.  Every child that Bashful has given this book to, reports it is STILL their favorite book~
  • ·         A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
  • ·         The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
Each of these books will bring smiles and warm fuzzy feelings to all of their readers.
