Twas the Night Before Christmas

This week’s blog is about “The Night Before Christmas”

and the rest of the story…

My favorite is the recent publishing of Mary Engelbreit's...

But this is no new story.....The story was believed to be written by Clement Clarke Moore for his children titled

“A Visit from St. Nicholas” in 1822. As a scholar, he is said to have been embarrassed by the light-hearted holiday poem. Historians also believe a family friend, Miss Harriet Butler, learned of the poem sometime later from Moore's children. She submitted this iconic children’s poet anonymously and it was then published in the Troy Sentinel in 1823.  Moore did not publish the poem under his name until 1844.

My research couldn't come up with a count of publishings of this classic poem…. But one thing I do know is it has been around nearly 200 years. Many authors have also taken his creative poem and created their own parody following the classic form of “Night Before Christmas”. What a great way to do comparison and contrast with students... I think we have some holiday books to read
